Water surrounds us; water pervades us; water is in the air. My concern this semester has focused on an inverse proposition, the quality of space and life that results when air is introduced into water, like a child blowing bubbles through a straw.

CONSCIOUS IGNORANCE


Today there is a great desire to consciously eliminate physical boundaries, like streets and highways, and unite historically under-served communities. A new type of ‘degree-zero’ public space is situated that will act as an agent that resets time to unite the Techwood and Georgia Tech communities.

OUR
TRASH


Plastic has become so accessible and practical to use that it is nearly impossible to get rid of it. The environmental impact of this material is huge, since it takes around 500 years to decompose. We continue to use it because of its convenience and because we do not see all of our plastic waste accumulate.

By using plastic cups as building blocks, this installation creates walls that play with light and shadow to give scale and volume to our trash. The structure of the walls (cups filled with soil) and the tree act as a symbol that reflects our current situation of trapping the earth in plastic.

THE
TERRACE


Brooklyn, New York has a long-standing history of being an epicenter of culture and that continues to ring true in Flatbush. The area is known for its rich cultural diversity, particularly its West Indian influence. As of recent years, due to an exponential growth of population and opportunity, the city now faces huge demands for housing. Thus, the residents of Flatbush constantly face the threat of being pushed out by new developments. The Terrace provides public, residential, and commercial spaces that form urban theaters aiming to draw locals and residents to the fruitful identity embedded in Flatbush’s fabric.

REFERENCE


Cross Reference is an interactive structure system that encourages play and leisure through the column drums and canopy systems. Through the use of Fologram, the user can modify the area of the space, height of the canopy and column drums, and the shape of the column grid and drums. Therefore, the number of configurations becomes infinite and makes the experience of Cross Reference unique to every user and space.
